Veneers are wafer-like shells made of porcelain that can be placed on the visible surface of a tooth to enhance its appearance. An increasing number of people are opting for veneers to improve their smile due to their versatility and simplicity.
Veneers have a wide range of applications including:
- To create a beautiful and uniform smile
- To enhance the color of a discolored or stained tooth
- To correct misshapen and crooked teeth
- To repair chipped or worn permanent teeth
- To resize teeth that are either too large or too small
Since they are ultra-thin, veneers are virtually undetectable and strongly resemble a healthy, white tooth enamel. Porcelain veneers are also resistant to stains caused by tobacco use and beverages such as wine, tea, coffee etc. Veneers are highly durable, and with proper care, they can last for up to a decade.
The installation of custom restorations such as veneers requires a high level of skill and precision. You generally need two visits to our practice to get your custom veneer done. First, the tooth to be restored is prepared by shaving off some part of the enamel. This is done to accommodate for the thickness of the veneer in the mouth. Impressions of the tooth are taken and the shade of your veneer is determined. This information is sent to a dental lab where your veneer is crafted. You are given a temporary restoration in the meantime. Once your custom veneer is ready, you’ll come in for your second visit. The tooth is cleaned and treated with etching gel to help the veneer bond properly. The veneer is then placed on the tooth and affixed with a dental bonding agent. We will also give you detailed instructions on how to care for your newly restored smile.
