Dental bonding is a procedure in which a tooth-colored resin is used to restore the appearance and function of damaged and decayed teeth. The resin used is closely matched to the color of your teeth to give a natural finish to your smile.
Cosmetic bonding can be used:
- To fill cavities and repair decayed teeth
- To restore cracked, fractured and chipped teeth
- To restore the color of deeply stained teeth
- To close uneven spaces between the teeth
- To correct uneven tooth lengths
- To fix the appearance of misshapen teeth
- To protect the tooth roots in case of gum recession
Bonding is a simple and quick procedure that can be completed in a single visit to our office. First, the tooth to be bonded is cleaned and the shade of the composite resin to be used is determined by carefully studying the natural shade of your teeth. Anesthesia is generally not needed unless the tooth is decayed or fractured. Once any existing decay or damage has been removed, the composite material is applied to the tooth in layers. Each layer is hardened individually using a special blue dental curing light. Once the desired thickness has been achieved and the composite has fully hardened, the tooth is buffed and polished to give it an even finish and a natural look. We will then evaluate your bite, and your beautiful new smile is ready.
Bonding is a durable procedure, and with proper care, it can last for anywhere from five to ten years.
